Workshops, Talks and Demonstrations

Workshops are normally arranged in our own studio space in Dunoon. The charge is £35 per day including lunch with everything provided; just bring yourself for a relaxing day. Groups are small so you will get plenty of chance to iron out any difficulties and ask questions. If you live locally please phone Mary - 01369 707078 to find out the next available dates.

This includes use of all tools and equipment, base fabrics for trying out techniques and a wide range of prepared recycled materials to experiment with. Students can just bring themselves with their enthusiasm! Our motto is TRY BEFORE YOU BUY So opportunity to use a wide range of hooks will be offered.

The most popular workshops are:

Image showing beginners hooky and proddy. Beginners Hooky and Proddy: This class concentrates on gaining some proficiency in the two most popular skills.
Image showing rag rug romp Rag Rug Romp: This is best suited to those who have done the beginners course or who already have considerable experience with other forms of textile work. We go at a fast pace and also introduce locker-hooking and use of the punch needle.

More specialised workshops can be arranged according to demand, such as miniatures, punch needle, locker hooking, dyeing-in-the-microwave, shading, making bags, making jewellery, etc.. All use rag rug making techniques sometimes borrowing ideas from other crafts.

Please note: If you live too far away but have a group of about 10 people who would like to learn the craft of rag rug making please ask as we try to do tours and accommodate several groups. Mary’s usual fee is £150 per day plus a contribution towards travelling.
